It was one of the reasons why former Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo was forced out. Demands for Ferrari cars is screaming hot these days and Fiat-Chrysler CEO, Sergio Marchionne, wanted to meet more of that demand. Thing was, di Montezemolo capped annual production at 7,000 units; he wanted to ensure demand remained higher than supply in order to protect the value and prestige of Ferrari. Marchionne didn’t entirely agree. Now that Ferrari is being spun off from FCA, annual production is going to increase.

Motor Authority caught wind of something in the filing Ferrari made with the US Securities and Exchange Commission regarding its share market listing. The document states that it plans to boost annual production to as much as 9,000 units by 2019 – that’s a 30% increase to what’s happening today, certainly no small number in only a few short years.

Which model will see the biggest production increase? The one that hasn’t happened yet. Ferrari is currently developing a new model that’ll fill the slot between the California T and 488 GTB, a mid-engined twin-turbo V6 widely rumored to be named Dino. And no, a SUV ain’t happening.
