The New Bugatti Chiron Can Hit 290 Miles An Hour And It Looks Incredible

When Bugatti unveiled the stunning Veyron back in 2005 it was one of the fastest and most beautiful automobiles ever made – its replacement, the Chiron, is even better.
It looks like we’ll have to wait until the Geneva Motor Show for its unveiling, but a Czech magazine claims to have some preliminary details and it does not look like the Chiron will disappoint.

ProDriver magazine reports that the Bugatti Chiron will top out at 467 kilometers per hour – that’s over 290 miles per hour, hitting 62 along the way in just 2.2 seconds. Its speedometer is said to run all the way up to 500 km/h (311 mph).

The design engineers in Molsheim are tipped to have squeezed 1,500 horsepower into the two-seat supercar, mostly thanks to a pair of electric turbochargers (and another couple of conventional ones) bolted to the 8.0-litre W16 engine.

Of course all this comes at a price and with a price tag said to start at a cool €2 million (£1.5 million) you’d better start saving those pennies. Apparently Bugatti is tipped to make only 100 examples of the new car every year for the next five and, of those, 130 units have reportedly already been spoken for.

The Veyron achieved fame when former BBC slugger Jeremy Clarkson took the lightning fast supercar and raced his Top Gear colleagues – who were flying a plane – from Italy to London.

In that case the Veyron won by a matter of minutes but, with the specs on the Chiron, it seems likely that the margin of victory would be a whole lot bigger. And there’s only one way to find out…
